How to sort a collection alphabetically in API Spector

As a collection grows, finding a request by eye gets slower. API Spector lets you order folders and requests by dragging them, interleaved however you like, but when you just want them in order, there is a one click sort.

Sort a collection or a folder

Right click a collection, or open its context menu, and choose Sort A to Z. The direct children sort by name, and folders and requests sort together at the same level, so a request named "accounts" can sit above a folder named "billing". The sort is case insensitive, and numbers sort naturally, so "item 2" comes before "item 10".

The same action is on a folder's menu. Run it on a folder to sort the items inside that folder.

It sorts one level at a time

Sorting a collection or folder orders its direct children only, not the contents of every sub-folder. That is deliberate: you can sort the top level without disturbing an order you set up carefully inside a folder. To sort a sub-folder too, run Sort A to Z on that folder.

The order is saved

The result is stored with the collection, in the same order that drives both the tree and a collection run. Commit the .spector file and the order travels with it, so everyone opening the workspace sees the same arrangement. You can still drag an item afterward to fine tune.

Why it helps

Manual ordering is right when the sequence matters, for example a login request that should sit first. For everything else, alphabetical order makes a request easy to find, and one click beats dragging rows one at a time.
